Intense and vibrant aromas of dark red and black fruits coming through with hints of
spicy oak and dark chocolate. The rich palate is fruit driven with dark black fruits, oak
and smooth tannins all working in unison. A textural complexity completes the palate
and continues to a long and persistent finish.
Dedicated Estate and select growers in the premium Central Victoria region provide
the ideal sites for the production of beautifully rich Shiraz with powerful fruit flavours.
Vineyards are planted to varying densities depending on the soil type, and are trained
to the standard vertical shoot positioning trellis to optimise flavour and tannin
Wet and relatively cool Spring season leading into Summer which was dry and warm
especially in January and February. With ample water available and well timed irrigation
of the vineyard, the harvest was excellent for disease pressure with fresh, clean
canopies and well balanced crop levels. Balanced wines with great fruit purity are the
hallmarks of this standout vintage. Overall, a vintage producing excellent varietal red
The Bend Shiraz fruit is picked at 13.5° baumé. Individual parcels were crushed and
fermented separately to preserve their unique characteristics. The grapes were gently
punched down by hand up to three times a day, with the focus on soft tannin extraction
to create a rich and powerful style. Once initial fermentation was complete the wine
was racked to stainless steel tanks to undergo malolactic fermentation before being
stored in seasoned oak barrels in order to ensure the retention of the fresh varietal
flavours and a soft, smooth tannin structure.
