Pale straw with green hues. The fruit aromatics display peach and citrus along with
tropical notes and sweet spice influence. The wine has a savoury edge with a palate
that is fine and balanced with biscuit characters working beautifully with zingy citrus,
fresh mango and nectarine flavours. A refreshing, bright acidity gives this wine lovely
length and the finish is savoury and textural.
Dedicated Estate and select growers in the premium Central Victoria region provide the
ideal sites for the growing of generous and expressive Chardonnay fruit. Vineyards are
planted to varying densities depending on the soil type, and are trained to the standard
vertical shoot positioning trellis to optimise flavour and natural acid retention.
Wet and relatively cool Spring season leading into Summer which was dry and warm
especially in January and February. With ample water available and well timed irrigation
of the vineyard, the harvest was excellent for disease pressure with fresh, clean
canopies and well balanced crop levels. Balanced wines with great fruit purity are the
hallmarks of this standout vintage. Overall, a vintage producing excellent varietal wines.
The Bend Chardonnay fruit was picked at 12.4° baumé. After pressing off skins a portion
of the wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks to promote freshness and purity of
Chardonnay character, whilst small percentage was fermented and matured in French
oak puncheons to provide palate texture and complexity.
